Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 28, 2026

This page explains what information Copdaz Hearing (copdaz.org) collects when you visit, why, and what control you have over it. We are a small, independent site that publishes guides on hearing aids, captioning and ASL. We collect as little as we can, and we do not sell personal data.

Who this policy covers

This policy applies to everyone who reads or uses copdaz.org. “We”, “us” and “this site” mean Copdaz Hearing. It covers the pages on this site and the tools built into them. It does not cover other websites, even ones we mention or embed content from. Those sites have their own policies.

The short version

  • You can read everything on this site without creating an account or giving us your name.
  • Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, which include your IP address.
  • The site may use cookies, including cookies from analytics or advertising partners. Where the law requires it, we ask for your consent first.
  • Embedded videos and social posts can set their own cookies.
  • Any interactive tools that we describe as running in your browser keep your inputs on your device. We do not receive them.
  • We never sell your personal data.
  • You can ask what we hold about you and ask us to delete it.

Information collected automatically

Server logs

Like almost every website, this site runs on a web server that records basic details about each request it receives. A typical log entry includes:

  • Your IP address
  • The date and time of the request
  • The page or file requested
  • Your browser type and operating system, as reported by your browser
  • The referring page, if your browser sends one
  • Whether the request succeeded or produced an error

We use logs to keep the site running, fix broken pages, spot abuse such as automated attacks, and understand overall load. We do not use server logs to build profiles of individual readers.

Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies include local storage and tracking pixels. On this site they fall into three groups:

Type What it does Do we ask first?
Strictly necessary Keeps the site working, for example by remembering your cookie choices or protecting against spam No, the site needs these to function
Analytics Counts visits and shows which pages are useful, using aggregated statistics Yes, where the law requires consent
Advertising Lets ad partners show ads and measure their performance, which may include personalised ads Yes, where the law requires consent

We may not use every category at all times. If we add analytics or advertising partners, those partners may set their own cookies and receive information such as your IP address, device details and the pages you view. They handle that information under their own privacy policies.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Most browsers also let you block third-party cookies only. Blocking cookies will not stop you from reading our content, though some embedded features may not load.

Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal data for advertising, where the law in your area recognises that signal. There is no agreed standard for responding to the older “Do Not Track” setting, so we cannot promise that every third-party service will honour it.

Information you choose to give us

If you contact us, for example to report an error in a guide or ask a question, we receive whatever you send. That usually means your name or username, your email address and the content of your message. We use it to reply and to improve the site. We do not add you to a mailing list unless you ask to join one.

If we offer a newsletter in future, signing up will be optional. Every email will include a way to unsubscribe.

A note about health information

Many readers come here because of their own hearing loss or a family member’s. Please do not send us medical records, audiograms or other health details. We cannot give personal medical advice, and we would rather not hold sensitive information we have no need for. If you send it anyway, we will use it only to answer your message and will delete it when the conversation is finished.

Tools that run in your browser

Some pages on this site include interactive tools, such as calculators, comparison helpers or caption and sound demos. Where we state that a tool runs in your browser, the processing happens on your own device. Your inputs, any audio played, and the results are not sent to our servers or stored by us. Closing or refreshing the page clears them, unless the tool explicitly offers to save something locally in your browser, in which case it stays on your device only.

A browser-based hearing check or sound demo is not a medical test. It also cannot account for your headphones, speakers or room noise. For an accurate assessment, see an audiologist or other qualified hearing professional.

Embedded content from other sites

Guides on this site may include content from other platforms, such as YouTube videos, ASL demonstrations hosted elsewhere, maps, or posts from social networks. Embedded content behaves as if you had visited the other site directly.

That means the provider may:

  • Collect data about you, including your IP address
  • Set cookies in your browser
  • Track how you interact with the embedded item
  • Link that activity to your account if you are logged in to their service

Where possible, we use privacy-enhanced embed options or load embedded content only after you click on it. If you want to avoid this tracking completely, log out of those services or block third-party cookies before you visit.

Affiliate links and recommendations

If we earn a commission when readers buy a product through a link on this site, the retailer or affiliate network may set a cookie to record that the sale came from us. That cookie is set by them, not us, and we do not receive your name, address or payment details from any purchase. We disclose affiliate relationships on the pages where they appear. Commissions do not decide which products we recommend.

How we use information

We use the information described above to:

  • Run, secure and maintain the site
  • Fix technical problems and broken pages
  • Understand which guides are useful, in aggregate
  • Show ads that help fund the site, if we run advertising
  • Reply to messages you send us
  • Meet legal obligations

We do not use your information to make automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.

Who we share information with

We share information only where it is needed to run the site or where the law requires it. This includes:

  • Service providers, such as our web host and any analytics, advertising or email providers, who process data on our behalf or under their own terms
  • Embedded content providers, as described above, when you view their content on our pages
  • Authorities, if we are legally required to disclose information, or if disclosure is needed to protect the safety of people or the security of the site

We do not sell personal data. We do not rent or trade reader information to marketers, data brokers or anyone else.

How long we keep data

We keep personal data only as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected for:

  • Server logs are kept for a limited period for security and troubleshooting, then deleted or reduced to anonymous totals. Our hosting provider’s own retention schedule may also apply.
  • Analytics data is kept in aggregated form. Where our analytics tools allow us to set retention periods, we choose the shortest setting that still lets us compare trends over time.
  • Messages you send us are kept as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and any follow-up, then deleted.
  • Cookies expire according to their settings, and you can delete them at any time in your browser.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, privacy laws may give you some or all of these rights:

  • Access: ask what personal data we hold about you and get a copy
  • Correction: ask us to fix data that is wrong or incomplete
  • Deletion: ask us to erase your data
  • Restriction or objection: ask us to limit or stop certain uses of your data
  • Portability: ask for your data in a commonly used format
  • Withdraw consent: change your cookie choices at any time
  • Opt out: ask us not to sell or share your data for targeted advertising

We will respond to any reasonable request from any reader, even if the law where you live does not strictly require it. To make a request, use the contact options listed on this site. We may need to ask for information to confirm your identity before we act, so that we do not hand someone else’s data to the wrong person.

Because we hold so little personal data, there is often nothing linked to your name at all. In that case we will tell you so. You also have the right to complain to the data protection authority where you live.

Keeping data secure

The site uses HTTPS, so data travelling between your browser and our server is encrypted. We limit who can access site systems and keep software up to date. No website can promise perfect security, but we keep what we collect to a minimum, which limits what could ever be exposed.

Data processed in other countries

Our hosting provider and third-party services may store or process data in countries other than the one you live in. Where that happens, we rely on those providers’ legal safeguards for international transfers.

Children’s privacy

This site is written for a general adult audience, including parents and caregivers of children with hearing loss. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13, or under the minimum age set by law where you live. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, tell us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when we change how the site works, for example if we add a newsletter, a new analytics service or an advertising partner. The “Last updated” date at the top will always show the most recent version. If a change significantly affects how we use personal data, we will make it clear on the site.

Contact

Questions about this policy or requests about your data can be sent through the contact options on this site. We read every message and aim to reply promptly.
